GET INVOLVED - Saturday Evenings at The Waiting Room

Saturday evenings at the Waiting Room are all about live performances; encompassing everything from standup comedy with the absolutley bonkers USOL to Paper Champion‘s off-beat indie, to Shallow Leisure‘s monthly offering of heavy stuff and everything else in between.

The transformation from chilled out daytime café to evening DIY performance venue is what makes the Waiting Room so special. When the doors close at 4:30, there’s a flurry of activity to get the space cleared ready for Sam our Events Manager and Sound Guru to work his magic with whoever is playing that night. And work his magic he does, ensuring everything goes smoothly and we get the best sound possible.

When we reopen at 7 it’s a real transformation, and it never fails to surprise me how different the space can feel from the relaxed tea-sipping, craft-doing, newspaper-reading of the daytime at The Waiting Room.

Behind the bar you’ll find a pair of our friendly and knowledgeable Saturday staff ready to serve locally sourced ales, lagers, ciders, wines and spirits. One of my favourite parts of working at The Waiting Room has been learning about everything we sell, and it’s been a real revelation to discover how much is produced right on our doorstep.

My other favourite part of working here is the opportunity i’ve had to see and hear so many amazing acts, both from Colchester and all over the world. From local favourites like Earthmass, Three Thrones and Dingus Khan to visitors from across the pond like Frog, it’s been a real pleasure to listen to some incredibly talented musicians. Not to mention, I’ve been left laughing until I cried watching USOL’s Hyperbowl shennanigans.

There really is something for everyone, and it’s right here in Colchester. Hopefully see you on a Saturday soon!
