Join the Bazaar Collective

The Waiting Room is hosting a new monthly Bazaar self-organised by a collective of local makers, producers, designers, artists, hackers, menders, craft people and artisans.

On the first Saturday of every month local residents can shop, feast, dance while they stock up their kitchen cupboards with the very best that Colchester and our surrounding areas have to offer.

In order for the Bazaar to be a success the collective are looking for other traders who are are interested in joining, taking on a small amount of responsibility to help with the successful running of the event… This is open to both new and existing traders from the Bazaar.

Entertainment Coordinator

  1. At the BAZAAR we wish to create a new, creative and inspirational way for running our farmers’ market. It is important that we create a community spirit and this role is there to develop and nourish this spirit.
  2. Ensure the spirit of the BAZAAR Coop and its ethos is understood by all traders. This will be through email communication and regular meetings with the traders at the beginning of each market day.
  3. Set a brief agenda for the monthly meeting with the traders.
  4. Ensure the traders are consulted on any major decision related to the BAZAAR Coop.
  5. Keep an up-to-date contact sheet for all traders.
  6. Create a feedback mechanism to enable traders to give feedback and suggestions regarding the BAZAAR.
  7. Develop this role as and when you feel appropriate.

Market Development Coordinator

At the BAZAAR we wish to create a new, creative and inspirational way for running our farmers’ market. This role is dedicated to developing the market to satisfy the needs of our customers and marketing the concept and our services, as widely as possible, in and around Colchester.

  1. Set-up a clear marketing plan for the BAZAAR to increase the footfall and draw in customers.
  2. Reach out to new traders, both local producers and artists, to enrich the variety of products on offer each month.
  3. Keep an eye on the BAZAAR FB page, updating it each month with photos and information; link the page to relevant groups and communities.
  4. Develop the range of services offered through and at the market, e.g. building on the flea market, bike repair service etc.
  5. Create a feedback mechanism for customers to give feedback and suggestions.
  6. Develop this role as and when you feel appropriate.

Logistics Coordinator

  1. At the BAZAAR we wish to create a new, creative and inspirational way for running our farmers’ market.
  2. Responsible for setting-up the Waiting Room each month, including putting up banners, arranging tables and chairs.
  3. Set a plan for traders’ tables, making it clear for them on the day.
  4. Make sure traders have the needed equipment for the day.
  5. Look into possibilities for providing equipment such as gazebos from the council or commercial companies in exchange for advertising space. This could be done in coordination with the Market Development Coordinator.
  6. Develop this role as and when you feel appropriate.

Finance and Fundraising Coordinator

At the BAZAAR we wish to create a new, creative and inspirational way for running our farmers’ market. To make this project successful, it needs to run on a sound financial basis.

  1. Responsible for collecting the monthly fee for the market.
  2. Set up an accounting sheet for the BAZAAR detailing all financial transactions
  3. Create a transparent feedback system for all traders to be kept informed of finances.
  4. Suggest fundraising ideas to traders and set up a fundraising plan.
  5. Develop this role as and when you feel appropriate.
