Private Hire of the Waiting Room

The Waiting Room was set up as DIY event and alternative social space. We aim to provide unique, open, cultural opportunities and experiences for the Colchester community.

Our focus is on achieving maximum impact and we believe that is best done by prioritising ambitious, open, affordable and public performances, rather than a space for private events, meetings and rehearsals.

However, we do have a number of days when the event space isn’t being used and, although we don’t publicly promote it, we do allow groups to hire the space for private events.

The Waiting Room costs £20 per hour for private events, meetings and rehearsals to help us cover our running costs as a not-for-profit community enterprise. Limited concessions maybe available for charitable, cultural or socially focussed groups upon request – please send us an email (on the address below) detailing why you can not afford the rates requested and why you feel your project deserves a concession.

Regardless of any hire concessions granted, if you would like the Café/Bar to be open for your event there is a minimum spend of £50 required (this is in addition to your hourly hire fee) to cover staffing costs. Plus:

• Strictly no consumption of alcohol on the premises other than products purchased from the Waiting Room licensed bar
• Tea and coffee making facilities can be made available if requested in advance.

Catering can be provided by one of our Resident Chefs for your event – prices are available upon application
