The Waiting Room only exists because members of the local community – many of them volunteers – step forward and take on responsibility for making things happen. In addition to the below team we have Resident Chefs, Event Organisers, Technicians and Bar Staff who contribute to the successful running of the space.
Marc De’ath
Co-founder of the Waiting Room concept and Creative Director at the Creative Coop. Marc leads on enterprise development and fundraising, community engagement as well as managing external partnerships.
Kaavous Clayton
Co-founder of the Waiting Room concept and lead Curator at neighbouring gallery the Minories. Kaavous supports our Resident Curators and provides valuable experience from his involvement in Outpost, an artist led gallery in Norwich.
Peter Jones
Chair of Cuckoo Farm Studios and Ceramicist Peter joined the Waiting Room team in early 2015. He leads the development of the MakerSpace Workshop and to help us develop relationships with the arts community.
Will Wright
Founder of SlackSpace Colchester in its original guise, Will supports the continual development of our vision for a DIY venue for Colchester. Leading on our Friday nights which look to provide a welcoming alternative to mainstream high street culture.
Chris Moore
Current Waiting Room beard champion and Live Events Manager in charge of Saturday night performances. Chris co-organises Colchester Vegan Fair and runs our Shallow Leisure evenings. Chris also plays guitar in almost every band known to man.
Tristan Howe
Professional Illustrator and Student/Teacher Assistant at Colchester School of Art, Tristan is the Waiting Room Host. First visit as a customer? Just starting behind the Bar? Tristan provides the low down, introduces you to the family and provides a warm welcome.
Michelle Desiree Luk-hang
Community engagement, marketing and is often found spinning the decks, Michelle is our voice. She distills our ever-changing narrative into a simple and exciting story, publicising events and sharing the ingredients that make our community so unique.
Mike Polom
MakerSpace Resident who can often found behind the Bar, Mike heads up the development of our Beer and Cider offer. He forges relationships with new and established craft suppliers, and maintains our equipment to ensure quality.
Phil Mill
Studying Sound Art at London College of Communication, Phil is our Resident Sound Engineer for live performance. You will often find him tinkering behind the sound desk and helping our performers get the most out of our venue, delivering a professional sound from our DIY venue.

Caroline Rhys-Lewis
A Resident Maker in charge of our Kiln, Caroline is also responsible for our monthly trader led Bazaar, where local makers, food producers, designers, artists, hackers, menders and craft people create a unique, immersive, interactive shopping experience.
Gabriela Margerita
Gabriela burst into the Waiting Room in the Spring with bundles of positive energy. She curates our selection of locally sourced Tea and Coffee, working with suppliers to improve service and consistency in every single cup.
