Christmas with Stitch & Bitch
This month we want you to help us spread some textile themed Christmas cheer with Stitch & Bitch - our resident craft club on Wednesday 10th December starting at the Minories Gallery from 6pm & moving onto the Waiting Room at 7.30pm.
Stitch & Bitch has been running for two years now. It originated at 15 Queen Street, Colchester’s creative hub and relocated to the Waiting Room in September 2014. Set up by local craft lovers Alex (that’s me), Amy & Meg. The group is all about dedicating one night of the month to getting crafty with local ladies and gents. They created the first Colchester Yarn Bomb and sent over 1,500 pieces of knitting to support babies in Africa.
To celebrate the group they’ve yarn bombed the The Minories Galleries Christmas shop and made a little book about all the things they’ve done (front cover preview left).
There are Tickets (by donation) to the Launch Party at the Minories from 6pm. Your ticket includes entry and a glass of bubbly to celebrate the Yarn Bomb & book launch.
You’ll get a chance to take a first hand look the bomb, and book, and grab a copy (price TBC) if you like. Plus you can meet the ladies behind S&B and have a drink & natter. Why not take a yarnie (selfie with yarn) with the Yarn Bomb? Just take a photo, upload it to instagram and tag it with #colchesteryarnbomb.
The group will then head over to the Waiting Room at 7.30pm to make Christmas decorations and drink eggnog.
*Please note: You don’t need to pay to join us at the Waiting Room. They will be there after the launch so you can meet the group there later on if you don’t want to attend the Christmas Yarn Bomb/book party*
Stitch & Bitch have created these super simple Christmas decoration patterns you can help yourself to:
They have a huge bag of random fabric you can rummage through and plenty of needles and thread. The Christmas party will also showcase their first textile themed party game: Megan Fowler’s Tassel Challenge. Join them on the night to take part and win an exciting mystery prize!
If you’ve got a haberdashery project you are working on, please bring it along. We’d love to see what you’ve been creating. If you need a chance to get knitting you are more than welcome to join us. The staple ELVIS will be playing and there will be a bar serving local beer, wine, cider plus you can buy a tea/coffee and cake!
Stitch & Bitch want to thank all the knitters, crafters and stitchers who have attend their events over the last few years. For all the donations and support on their various projects and hope you can pop down and say hello & Merry Christmas to Alex, Amy & Meg.
