Plenty of Print
On Saturday 22nd November we’re hosting an Open Day for the public to view and experience our evolving Hack / Maker Space at the Waiting Room. Meet some of the people and members involved with the space and try out various FREE printing workshops with local artists. The event is part of the Craft Council‘s Make:Shift:Do - A programme of public events to experience hands on making.
You can drop in from 11am - 4pm. On the day we have:
Fabric Printing
Alex Davis is a textile lover, co-hosting Stitch & Bitch once a month. She will be hosting a fabric printing session inviting you to use wood and foam to create repeat patterns on bags.
Badge Making
Jack Brigg-Miller looks after our The Coffee Darkroom. Meet our resident photographer, find out more about our natural chemical printing process and create your own badge using various printing/drawing techniques.
Silkscreen Printing
Tom Armstrong is a silk screen printer who also looks after our Print Shop. He will be loading up screens for you to create your own stencils to print on bags throughout the day.
Letterpress Printing
Paul and Rob are our St Botolph’s Letterpress Studio technicians helping restore a Cropper Platen Press that was donated to the Waiting Room, along with all of the equipment that came with it. They can explain the Letterpress printing process, show you the space, and will have an Adana printer for you to try out.
We are very pleased to announce that T Y P O R E T U M will be joining us. Justin Knopp aka Typoretum, runs a creative letterpress printing & design studio based in Coggeshall. They provide a custom letterpress printing and design service bringing their A3 proofing press to try, and wood type to gawk at. G.F Smith are donating some gorgeous Colorplan papers for the Printroom. Please join us, get printing and put this paper to good use.
Take a tour
You can also take a tour of our Hack / Maker space. We have shared access to tools and materials, studio spaces for artists, a dark room, print space and Letterpress studio. Find out more from our co-ordinator Alex Davis [email protected] on how you can use the space and get involved with the project.
This event is sponsored and supported by G.F Smith.
Make:Shift:Do is a Crafts Council programme in partnership with Digital Programmes at the V&A, The RSA, and the Institute of Making at UCL. Make:Shift:Do coincides with the Make:Shift conference, 20 - 21 November, which explores craft and innovation.
