Help us define: What can the Waiting Room be?

As the Waiting Room fast approaches its 1st birthday, the project is recruiting for a new Volunteer Events Manager to join us on our journey to prototype and define a new community space to fill what we think is a significant void in Colchester’s (sub) cultural offering.

The role involves supporting people to make applications to use the venue for events, presentations, exhibitions, workshops and other creative cultural activity.

It will suit someone who gets a kick out of helping others to realise their ideas and creative aspirations.

You will be in charge of encouraging, curating and vetting applications and connecting successful applicants to the help they need within the Waiting Room’s network of support. You will also be responsible for managing bookings using our online systems, sending a monthly E-Newsletters as well as spotting opportunities for join up, avoiding duplication and fragmentation and aiding collaboration.

You will be a driving force within our efforts to continually raise the Waiting Room’s creative bar.

There is the potential for this to become a paid for role for anyone who has an enterprising mind and is willing to work closely with our Kitchen/Café/Bar staff to increase revenue in new and innovative ways.

Applicants should have excellent organisational skills, be digitally savvy, have bags of initiative, be approachable, driven, confident, sociable and believe in their own ideas. It is also vital that you know when to step back and allow others to thrive.

This is a role for a facilitator and curator not an events organiser.

To start we anticipate the role taking 8 hours a week. The role is deliberately loosely defined to leave room for anyone coming in to help us shape the opportunity to suit both your personal aspirations and the Waiting Rooms day-to-day needs.
