Behind the sign
For some time now we’ve had a fantastic sign hanging from the front of the Waiting Room space - Eleven 3D letters in bright yellow spelling out W-A-I-T-I-N-G R-O-O-M to welcome visitors as they turn into the old bus station off queen street, tempting them in for a cuppa, pint or even lunch.
The sign is courtesy of someone who has contributed a huge amount to the project to-date, an incredible local maker, artist and fabricator Broa Sams. Not only has he built us the letters but also the case of Mike Polom’s forthcoming Arcade Machine (blog to come soon) and the boxes we often use for seats and storage you’ll see dotted around the space.
Broa is a specialist fabricator engaged primarily within Fine arts, live music and the film industry. He has worked with an exhaustive list of contemporary British artists including Roger Hiorns, Anish Kapoor and Rachael Whiteread. International artists include Paul Macarthy, Ernesto Neto and Jeff Koons.
Clients for other projects have been as diverse as Vangelis, His Holiness the Pope and the X factor. He is an artist in his own right. In professional practice he specialises in the realisation of ambitious and unusual projects for the most adventurous of clients.
His projects are often fabricated in unorthodox ways from peculiar materials and are often realised on his CNC machine in Waterloo.
If you would like to commission Broa or learn more about his work, he can be contacted through broasams.com or via email [email protected]
We can’t thank or recommend working with Broa enough. We would also like to thank Jonny Buffalo of local Artist Studios the Buffalo Tank who contributed his welding skills and muscle toward the build and installation of frame on which the sign sits.
